So yesterday(ish) I wrote about the ruling that the DMCA cannot be used in cases where the underlying copying falls under fair use.
Today, Cory Doctorow posts about a ruling that the police cannot legally prevent the public from videotaping their activities.
Apparently someone was arrested for filming the police make an arrest. The judge ruled that the police violated the man’s first amendment rights and awarded him 35k in damages.
The professional media seems to have given up on acting as government watchdogs, this role is going to fall more and more on private citizens.
